On the 26th of August, Pro-Visual Publishing had the opportunity to attend the Virtual and Augmented Reality Meetup with Creative Collaborative Sydney at the MLC Building. The meetup provided the chance for Pro-Visual to showcase the National Guide to Fitness & Health and theConstruction Site Safety Guide.
First up, by way of guest speakers, was Mark Billinghurst, an expert and pioneer in AR who joined the meetup remotely via a cool double telepresence robot. Mark covered AR-based training in his presentation and informed us on how AR could be utilised in the workplace. He also spoke about intelligent AR interfaces that not only educate but also provide feedback to the user.
Second up was Jeremy Harkins from ineni Realtime, a company specialising in 3D immersive environments that can be accessed remotely and in realtime. Able to be used by facility managers and strata management, this interactive technology can replace 2D site plans. This means that building blueprints, drainage facilities, water lines, lighting and alarms can be controlled via remote access.
To finish the evening off, Callum Parker, from the University of Sydney’s Design Lab, spoke about personalised interactive public displays using AR. This technology detects body movement to allow users to interact, much like the information touch screen kiosks found in shopping centres. The difference with this technology is that you can grab the information from the kiosk and privately view it on your portable smart device.
Once the guest speakers finished up their presentations, those who attended mingled with other AR technologists and enthusiasts. It was a great opportunity to network with those leading the way in augmented reality.
